What’s Happening:
The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has introduced a new “Junk Fee” Rule that takes effect on May 12, 2025. This rule is designed to prevent hidden fees by requiring total pricing, including mandatory fees, to be shown upfront in all listings, including property search results.
Recommended Actions:
To help you comply with the rule, we recommend the following actions:
Disable Search Result Pricing: This removes nightly rates from search results, eliminating the risk of non-compliant pricing. This does not remove rates from the property and checkout pages.
Implement Compliant Pricing in Search Results: This involves displaying the full price directly in the search results, including all mandatory fees. This may require custom development, and a quote will be provided upon request.
Important Note:
The ability to implement compliant pricing on search results depends on the capabilities of your property management software provider and requires custom development. At this time, only a few software providers have enabled compliant pricing capabilities, but we expect more to do so in the near future.
