Protect yourself from chargebacks, loss of income, property theft & damage.
The Booking Risk Score is a tool that RealTech offers to help you combat fraud. It gives property managers the information they need to know the likelihood that a transaction is fraudulent.
The Checkout Page Security features protect your website from automated fraudulent attacks, but the Booking Risk Score is built to look for manually entered fraudulent reservations.
Manually entered fraudulent transactions are much more complex to spot, as they usually use good credit card numbers. The fraud is often not found until after the stay when the actual credit card owner reports the fraudulent charge. The Booking Risk Score gives property managers the information they need to know when to do more due diligence on a suspicious reservation before allowing the guest to stay at their rental. Screening every reservation can be time-consuming & costly. The Booking Risk score helps you determine which reservations need further investigation to confirm they are not fraudulent.
How does it work?
Each reservation you receive will have a Booking Risk Score. This is a % that shows the likelihood of the reservation being fraudulent. This score is calculated based on the information used from the reservation: Name, Email, Phone, Address, IP Address & credit card details.
The Booking Risk Score will be assigned with color indicators in the reservation confirmation email:
- Green: risk scores below 10%
- Yellow: scores between 10-60%
- Red: scores above 60-90%
- Blocked: scores above 90%
Along with the Booking Risk Score you may receive a list of reasons for the score.
What should a Property Manager do with this information?
This information is to be used at the property manager’s discretion. They should use this information to determine which reservations they want to do further due diligence/identity verification on before allowing guests to stay in their rental.
Property managers are never allowed to share MaxMind scores or reasons with guests.
