How To Approve Guest Reviews on Your WordPress Vacation Rental Website

Review management is an important part of running a vacation rental company. Even though RealTech does not actively manage reviews for our clients, we do make sure everything is in place for you, the rental manager, to be successful. We have designed our websites to make it simple and easy for you to review and approve reviews.

It is important that you or someone in your office is in charge of checking reviews regularly to avoid them piling up as drafts in WordPress. The good news is, the process of approving reviews should only take a couple of minutes. Here is a quick tutorial on how you can find and manage your rental reviews.

Step 1 – Login to WordPress

Log in to WordPress, also known as the backend of your website. If you are unsure of how to do that, please contact RealTech support and they will provide you with additional help.

Step 2 – Locate Reviews Section

Locate the left sidebar on your WordPress dashboard. Depending on the age of your website, you might find reviews in the “Posts” section of your website or the “Rental Reviews”. Both will be in the middle of the sidebar.

If you see “rental reviews”, click on that option and continue reading to step 3, but if you do not see that option then skip to the troubleshooting section of this article.

Step 3 – Review Drafts

Now that you have found and clicked on “Rental Reviews”, you should see a window similar to the one above. The most recent reviews will appear at the top of the list. If there is a draft label on the review then it cannot be seen on your website. You will need to click on the review to read and approve for it to be seen by other users on the website.

To do this, either click on the review title or the edit button and the review will open.

Step 4 – Approving Reviews

Once you read over the review, the last step is to push the publish button. You won’t need to change any settings.

Troubleshooting

Problem: I don’t see the “Rental Reviews” section on the sidebar.

Solution: Select “Posts” instead. This will take you to the main blog section of WordPress. There you will be able to filter through categories on the upper right corner above the blog article list. The category should be something like “reviews” or “guest reviews”.

Another option is to click on “Drafts”, which is just above the category dropdown box. Selecting any article that is still a draft, will help you locate the reviews that are waiting to be approved.

Once you’ve located the reviews, the rest of the approval process is the same as the steps above. Click on the edit button then the blue publish button after reading the review.
